Why do we love our dogs?

Dogs are loved because,
  • They love us even when others don't.
  • They welcome us home without asking why we are late.
  • They are more forgiving than people.
  • They enjoy being close even when we aren't feeling good about ourselves.
  • They don't care what we look like.
Could there be even more?

A bumper sticker suggests the prayer: "Dear Lord, please help me to be the person my dog thinks I am."

& I think God sees us the same way too. Even more. The Friend who sees us at our worst, & still loves us. The Friend who can meet our deepest needs.


Father in heaven, thank You for the friendship and joy of a loving dog. Please help us to remember that the best this life has to offer is given to bring our hearts to You and to the friendship that gives meaning to every other joy.
